Mud Hen Prospect Called Up To The Show

The Colorado Rockies called up outfielder Cory Sullivan from Colorado Springs AAA after hitting .285, with 12 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 18 rbi's and 5 stolen bases in 39 games.

Mud Hens get second baseman


Chris Getz, a AAA second baseman in the Chicago White Sox organization, was drafted in the 5th round (#137 overall) of the MDBL Rookie Draft by the Southern Indiana Mud Hens yesterday. Getz, 24, is from the University of Michigan. He is currently hitting .290 with 9 doubles and 5 home runs with 5 stolen bases through 44 games.

Mud Hens get Raben in 4th Round


The Southern Indiana Mud Hens selected University of Miami outfielder, Dennis Raben, in the 4th round of the MDBL Rookie Draft. Raben is a 6'3", 220 pound, left handed power hitter. He is currently hitting .311 with 8 HR's and 44 RBI's and currently carries a .973 OPS. Last summer, Raben played for the Orleans Cardinals in the Cape Cod League and hit 6 HR's and earned all-Cape Cod honors.

Darnell taken in 3rd round by Mud Hens


James Darnell, a junior third baseman for the Universtiy of South Carolina, was selected in the 3rd round of the MDBL Draft by the Southern Indiana Mud Hens. He is 6'2", 210 pounds and according to Baseball America, "is a physical specimen with a combination of athleticism and strength and has potential to develop into a 5 tool prospect." Going into this weekend's SEC Tournament, Darnell is hitting .315 with 18 HR's and leads the Gamecocks with 77 RBI's in 56 games. He has a .979 OPS.

Mud Hens get pitcher and shortstop



The Southern Indiana Mud Hens selected high school right handed pitcher Sonny Gray in the 2nd round and University of Miami shortstop Ryan Jackson in the compensation round of the MDBL Draft. Gray, a Vanderbilt signee, sports a mid 90's fastball and a hammer curveball that had scouts rating as well-above-average. Jackson, a sophomore shortstop for the Canes, is 6'3", 180 pounds, and going into this week's ACC Tournament is hitting .360, with 19 doubles, 2 HR's, .915 OPS, and 8 stolen bases.

Mud Hens Select Ike Davis With 42nd Pick


The Southern Indiana Mud Hens selected Arizona State 1B/OF, Ike Davis with the 42nd pick in the MDBL Draft. Davis has the sweet swinging lefthanded bat they were looking for. GM Dan Thurston said, "Ike Davis has faced the best amateur competition in the country and has proven himself with the bat, hitting for both average and power."

Dietrich Concludes Great Freshman Season


Georgia Tech Freshman shortstop, Derek Dietrich, has concluded a fantastic first year for the Yellow Jackets. Dietrich started all 55 regular season games for the Ramblin' Reck at shortstop and in a tough conference like the ACC, finished the season with a .333 batting average, 14 home runs, 62 rbi's, and a 1.041 ops. Dietrich may be looking at a move to third base before climbing the ladder to the Mud Hens, but he has a promising future.

Mud Hens Select Shooter Hunt with 1st Round Pick


The Mud Hens selected Tulane University RHP Shooter Hunt with their 1st round pick. It is the first pick under new GM Dan Thurston. "Shooter Hunt is a big, strong power pitcher who we think we develop into a quality starting pitcher." Hunt made 13 regular season starts for the Green Wave this season, going 9-2 with a 2.10 ERA. He gave up 43 hits, 46 walks, and stuck out 110 in 85 2/3 innings pitched.

"We wish Shooter the best of luck in the Conference USA Conference Tournament and on the road to Omaha," said GM Thurston. "We then look forward to assigning him to our minor league camp and the start of his professional career."
